As you might know, some countries will soon celebrate Halloween. One of them is of course Ireland, and that was the theme of today's TGIF. By TGIF I mean a Friday party for Googlers, which is about drinking beer and having some snacks. But not only that – often we have some presentations of new products and interesting facts, new employees are introduced, video conferences with executives from Mountain View are held, etc.
Before I move on to TGIF, it is worth mentioning that a second canteen has been opened recently in the new building which is slowly filling up for the last couple of months. The new canteen specializes in serving sushi and panini. Here are some photos as a proof:
It is well known that Google tries to be ecological, for example recently it has been announced that they will invest into solar power in order to supply Mountain View office. In Dublin one can not, as opposed to California, count on Sun, so the management of the new canteen decided to use biodegradable cutlery. AFAIK, these are made of potato starch, nevertheless they look like plastic. What's important, they are supposed to degrade in reasonable time instead of thousands of years :-)
And for the sweet finale, here are some photos of Halloween celebration. As the invaluable Wikipedia writes, there is an Irish tradition to hide a ring or a coin in barmbrack cake. The person who finds it in her slice is supposed to have lots of luck during next year. Well, we'll see how much truth there is in those Irish myths, as the ring was found by yours truly :-)
